Very Superstitious...

Ah, you see! Friday 13th was the last post, and that has kept me from you for some days. Granted the hiatus was trifling compared to that when I returned from the Gulf, but even so, it hurt me!

I am in the habit of saluting magpies, just in case anything could go right when one counts their grouping, but of course I tend to see solitary birds. (Well, actually, I don't see solitary birds, which makes everything even more depressing!) But old pica pica does seem to get everywhere these days, and seems more abundant than the sparrow, so why do I usually get the poor devil that has lost its mate?

I have been discussing with my new friends the variety of superstitions that our grandparents taught us, and which probably date back a very long way. It's rare at present to meet someone who is in the embrace of Lady Luck, but we counted a score of decent measures to avoid her scorn. And realised that we had been remiss in our daily activities, which must of course have prevented our syndicate triumphing at Lotto last week.

In lighter frame of mind, Number One Daughter has been offering lessons in Facebook over the long-distance telephone, so I am now able to be a little more circumspect in my usage. I have learnt to send private messages where tact is called for.

I have also been busy arranging to interview many hopefuls for my team's latest foray into the fringes of the financial services world. I return to the good old Metropolis later this week for some hard work. Doubtless I shall not be rewarded on this Earth, but at least I can envisage an upturn in my personal fortunes sometime in the next decade. To complete the Wondrous title, the writing is on the wall. Or if you upset me, on The Wall!

It could have been worse, he could have been - whoops! PC, please, BE.
