Black Merda

Not an incitement to riot, an invitation to dance.

Appalled to admit that I had never heard this band until this morning.  From the Motor City in the late 60's but not really in my mainstream Northern.  Fantastic Hendrix-soundalikes but just as groovy.  Even when supposed to be doing hard rock, black people just cannot help cutting a dance theme.  I love it! And I guess, this is the sort of attitude from where the Wiffling Stones, The Who, Jimmy Page, even Geezer Butler, took their inspiration.

My tip for the top in late 2013 is Black Merda.  Not the sort of merde you watch courtesy of Cowell and chums.  Listen and learn.

And having done some proper research I learn that Norm Whitfield and Eddie Kendricks were interested in Merda before they went and signed for Chess.  OMG, as they say, these guys had class!  And who the hell was Linnie Walker?  Great voice, seems to have been by-passed by everyone, even Wiki-slags.

Try the live version of 'Psycho' by Jimi, compare and contrast with the Northern stuff I recommend, and then try Black Merda with George Clinton. He of the multifarious dreads and specs and ting.  Funkadelic!  Then you will realise why Whitfield wanted Black Merda at Motown. Goodness, I should have been an investigative journalist. And at that point you listen to 'Paranoid' and realise that only the West Mids can produce real thumping heavy rock.

Chin-chin, my lovelies.

And a special 'hello' to VC L Veasey...the man in the pile of brilliance that is Black Merda. He responds!
