If Rix can play for England....

As the Hotspurs sang in the days before Harry, when their neighbours provided another unworthy cap for the perma-failure that is the England national team.

I was reminded of this witty banter whilst reading the latest burblings from a denizen of Fantasy Island. Apparently 'Big' Sam Blackburn reckons he would win the Champions League and all the trimmings if he were given a job at the Bridge or the Bernaneu. That's why Special Jose has been so keen to move on, then. Afraid that he'll be replaced by Sam at any moment! Hmmm. I know I live in a parallel universe, but some people really make me laugh! And you need to laugh occasionally, I guess.

On Sunday I am due at the touchline to observe Number Two Son commence the new season at their geographically-nearest rivals for the title in the Brentwood U-9 League. I am sure that most of the lads could claim 'So could I'. Good luck to them all, but especially to the boy in the number 9 shirt cutting in from the right wing...come on you OJ's!

And then there is the small matter of the Scousers' latest tryst with the Red Devil.

Happy Days!

'Oh, to be in England now that England's here. I stand upright in my wheelbarrow and pretend that I am Boadicea.'

Thank you Sir Stanshall, pace Browning.
